Change the Rhetoric and Embrace the Diverse Clause

Last updated on December 13, 2015

The prejudice of color has taken on various hues with most people wanting fair skin models to grace the runway. However it is time that fashion takes on a new hue without any negative tone of racism creeping in. Various parts of the world people are embracing either their curves and with many celebrities endorsing this pattern, perhaps this may be something that well known fashion houses and brands may inculcate in their designs. The same can be said about using well toned color co-ordinates to highlight the beauty of people who are not light skinned but sport lovely textures that can take on the reason why diversity should be the new black! After all in practically every girl’s wardrobe female is an LBD (little black dress) with the color highlighted. Some may wonder why the constant drill of making things for everyone when … blah… blah… blah… The fact of the matter is simple really, the time has come for people to improvise the rhetoric and embrace what God has given us with a view to sizzle and showoff the great designs irrespective of the color of one’s skin. The only thing that one needs to change is the mindset and if this works, then there is nothing to say that everyone is gonna be on the same page with applause irrespective if one is the slimmest or the fairest of them all! Right!?

The stereotype of toned bodies looking hip or fair skin being the best angle for lighting or camera angles is so old school. Fresh faces usually are the best bets on the runway for every brand, that is pretty much a given. But to endorse a brand for something just because of the color theme scheme is not the way to go… unless one is a supporter of black. Monochrome is not really embraced by all cultures, and it is high time that the diversity clause is showcased across the board. The need to use fairness creams should also be passé with celebrities skipping the constant need to appear fair to appeal to a mass. But what is the mass, anyway? Most people are either freckled, spotted, have zits, some skin problem, irrespective of color. But they are ‘done away with’ completely with the right make up techniques. However changing the tone of the skin is rather ridiculous and one cannot actually believe this myth that it works! In any case, the reason why it is imperative to change the discourse is because one cannot be defined by the color of one’s skin and one should not be judged this way. In fact, the darker the skin, or the heavier the person, the more diverse can the angle of the ramp be – i.e. if the person has something that is considered to be a defect – she or he will have more followers along the way, because the person is real and not done up! One can be pretty or handsome irrespective of size or color!
