Choosing the Right Ink or Toner

There are literally thousands of different types of printers. For the most part you can print high quality drafts on printers in your own home. For large or special projects, you may want to rely on a printing services in Cincinnati to do the heavy lifting for you.

That being said, if you decided to do your own printing, there’s nothing worse than a printer running out of ink or toner, or paper in the middle of a project. If your printer runs out of paper, you have only a couple of options when looking to buy more. Either a multi-purpose paper, or paper designed specifically for laser printers. But if your printer runs out of ink or toner, you will be dealing with another problem entirely. The following is some advice on how to choose the right ink or toner for your printer.

Laser Printers

The easiest technique for finding the correct toner cartridge for a laser printer is to look at the model or serial number on the existing, spent cartridge. You can even take it with you to a store to find a replacement cartridge, or you can search for that model or serial number on Amazon.com or a similar website.

Alternatively, if you cannot find the serial number on the existing cartridge, you can use the model number of the printer to search for a replacement. Again you can use Amazon or a similar website. These websites have a section where you enter the model number of your printer, either manually or from a drop-down menu, and they return a list of toner cartridges to choose from. Often you will find toner from the printer manufacturer as well as several generic types to choose from. Typically the model specific brand will cost more than some of the generic brands. When trying to determine which one to buy, you may want to check reviews from others who have bought them. Most of these websites will include reviews for each product. Check for brands with high ratings rather than brands that have low ratings and numerous complaints.

Inkjet Printers

The processes of finding cartridges for an inkjet printer is quite similar to the process for laser printers with a few important differences.

First, you’ll want to be aware that you’re going to have a lot more options to choose from when it comes to ink cartridges than toner cartridges. In fact, you’ll even have to decide between buying new cartridges or refilling your existing ones. If you decide to refill existing cartridges, you can find store fronts or kiosks in most malls that can provide this service. These are often cheaper than buying replacement cartridges, but the ink use may not be of the same quality as the original or the cartridges may simply not work as well after several refills.

If you do decide to replace the spent cartridges with new ones, follow the same steps listed above for laser printers. Just make sure to check whether you need color or black ink for your refill. You might even be able to enlist an expert from a Cincinnati printing service to see if they can help you make sure you have the right type of ink.
