Electronic Music Vs. Rock

Electronic rock has been around for a couple of decades but has not really hit the popularity it deserved until recently. Many in the rock world are not fans of this genre because the style samples music that has already been produced and they don’t feel that turntables are real instruments. Of course, this type of rivalry has always been around when it comes to music so this isn’t something new in the business. However, there are some awesome things to be said about both music genres and they both have a place in the music world. So, which would you choose if you have to pick between electronic music vs. rock?

The Differences

One of the main differences as stated above is that rock bands tend to use more instruments when producing their music. While some bands do use synthesized instruments like keyboards, they do not use mix boards to produce unique sounds as in electronic rock. Electronic rock is, contrary to rock enthusiasts’ opinion, also produced with instruments, just not what would be considered traditional. They use turntables with albums that others have created to switch up the sounds and to “sample” bits of that music to create a new song that are heavy on synthesizers. Some electronic rock is fully instrumental and there are some great bands that also have great vocalists. This would probably be the biggest difference between the two styles of music but that’s not the only difference.

Similarities of Both Genres

One thing that is true is that both rock bands and the electro rock band genres is that both reach a wide audience and play in festival type settings on a regular basis. Think back to the days of Woodstock and you can find this same energy and enthusiasm at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas or at a local rave. There are too many rock festivals to name but they are out there too and have the same cast of crazy partiers as you’d find at a rave. In fact, you may find some music lovers at both types of festivals because they not only attend for the awesome music, but for the event itself. Again, this is not the only similarity but one of the biggest between these two genres of music.

It’s Just a Bunch of Noise

Wow, what rocker has never heard their mother or father say that about their music and what electronic rock lover hasn’t either? While it may seem like a bunch of noise to those who don’t like it, both styles of music offer great beats and music that can be danced to in one form or another. So it’s really down to a choice between which of the types of noise you prefer. And there are many who can enjoy and appreciate both styles of music equally.

While this may not have swayed you to one style of music or the other, it wasn’t intended to do that anyway, maybe it can show that there are more similarities between the two genres than you might thing. Give both styles a listen and you may find that there is some that you like and some that you don’t, but you’ve at least given the music a chance to move you, and that’s what it does best!
