Famous Lakes from Ooty Tourism

The lakes in Ooty are an integral part of Ooty Tourism, apart from adding natural beauty and charm to the landscape of the place, they are also an important source of recreation amongst all the places to visit in Ooty.

 

Ooty Lake

Out of the many Lakes that are there in Ooty, Ooty Lake can be easily called the highlight of Ooty Tourism. This is an artificial lake, which was created by the mountain streams flowing down the Ooty Valley. This lake was constructed by John Sullivan, the founder of Ooty in 1824. It is surrounded by lush green eucalyptus trees adding to its natural beauty and there is a boat house nearby which is frequented a lot by the tourists. Boat races are also organised here in summers which is a not to be missed annual event.

 

Pykara Lake

Situated amidst lush green forests, near Pykara falls and Dam and a boat house around, Pykara Lake is perfect to explore Ooty Tourism at its best. Although boating is the key attraction here, Pykara Lake is one the famous places to visit in Ooty for its natural greenery and serene environment. It is undoubtedly the most visited lake by the tourists!

 

Emerald Lake

Natural surroundings, beautiful sunsets, lakes beaming with crystal clear water are the biggest defining features of Ooty Tourism and Emerald Lake has it all! Apart from the various aquatic animals that can be seen in its waters, the view of sunrise and sunset from this lake is also quite spectacular. The lake is surrounded by a tea plantation from where visitors can buy tea products.

 

Marlimum Lake

With the backdrop of pristine Nilgiri Hills, Marlimum Lake is one the most scenic spots in Ooty. The virgin forest reserves around and its crystal clear water is not all it offers, the visitors can choose anything from an open shikara to a paddle boat to enjoy the lake even more. It is an extremely tranquil lake with only the only sound to be heard around is that of chirping of the birds.

 

Kamaraj Sagar Lake

This lake is one of the most serene places to visit in Ooty. It is the best example of unspoiled nature from Ooty Tourism. Located amidst green hills, this artificial reservoir is also a famous fishing spot and a perfect place to savour the freshly caught fish by the lakeside. It is an extremely popular picnic spot with locals and tourists alike.

 

Bellikkal Lake

It offers everything which a nature lover would seek for, solitude amongst nature, rare birds to spot and greenery all around. Elephants drinking the lake water are a common sight during the early hours of the day.

 

Ooty Tourism offers a lot to explore and with the serene environs and crystal clear water, the lakes are a sheer delight to visit while selecting the places to visit in Ooty.
