Great Broadband Bundles If You Have Relatives Abroad

Last updated on February 19, 2014

A lot of broadband packages only give you a specific amount of data each month, 20GB for example. While this may be more than enough for some, others, especially those who have relatives abroad may struggle as they are likely to want to talk to them from time to time.

If you live in a different part of the world from your parents or siblings, you may want to stay in touch via the internet as it’s a much cheaper way of talking. What’s more is you can make video calls using Skype or other programs that allow you to see the person you are talking to.

This is great because it makes us feel that little bit closer to our loved ones, but it can also cause a few difficulties. Talking on Skype for example, can use up a lot of data, and if your broadband bundle is limited, you may struggle to keep within the boundaries. This could result in your broadband being cut off for the rest of the month, or you may be faced with a sky high bill. This isn’t much fun at all, but there is something you can do to ensure you and your family can stay in touch, without leaving you out of pocket.

Fortunately, there is something you can do to ensure staying in touch with relatives doesn’t cost any more than it should. The solution isn’t to stop making home phone and international calls, it involves staying online, but instead of using a limited data package, you will sign up for an unlimited data package.

Packages such as these will allow you to call your loved ones abroad, without you having to worry about using up a whole load of data. While these packages may be a little more expensive each month than your current package, the cost will certainly beat the price of being charged for going over your monthly data allowance.

To make your search for the perfect broadband bundle a little bit easier, I have compared some of the best unlimited broadband deals at the time of writing. Please note that each of these deals are subject to change, and were correct at the time of writing.

Prices can and do change from time to time, so please make sure you contact your prospective internet service provider so you can be aware of exactly how much you’ll be paying each month.

Here is a list of the top 5 cheap broadband bundles around right now:

Cheap Deal #1

Service Provider: T Mobile

Maximum Speed: 4MB

Limit: Unlimited

Contract Length: No

Telephone Calls Included? NO

Line Rental: Pay as you go

Monthly Cost: Pay as you go

Although this bundle provides you with unlimited data, you will have to pay for your data as you use it. This could be a little tricky if you’re strapped for cash, but it’s perfect if you only want to be online every now and again. 4MB is not very fast, but if you’re not going to download music or movies, it should be sufficient for those video calls you love to make.

Cheap Deal #2

Service Provider: Tesco Broadband

Maximum Speed: 14MB

Limit: Unlimited

Contract Length: 12 months

Telephone Calls Included? Yes

Line Rental: £14.90

Here’s another pay as you go bundle that you may want to make use of if you don’t go online very often. Beware that you will be charged for line rental whether you use the internet or not. This deal is however, a little better than the previous one as it offers you much faster speeds.

Cheap Deal #3

This deal is also quite a good one, with relatively fast speeds, line rental and unlimited data usage. The contract length is 12 months, but if you want to stick with EE for another 12 months they might be able to offer you a discounted rate.

Cheap Deal #5

Service Provider: Talk Talk

Maximum Speed: 16MB

Limit: Unlimited

Contract Length: 12 months

Telephone Calls Included? No

Line Rental: £15.40

Monthly Cost: £2.50

This is also a bit of a good deal because as well as unlimited data, you will also get up to 16MB of broadband, which should be sufficient for Skype. Phone calls are not included in this deal, but if you want to use your home phone, make sure you’re aware of any charges.

As you can see there are some great deals that you may want to make use of if you have relatives abroad. As with any deal, please make sure that you’re aware of the price and conditions before you sign on the dotted line.

Making Those Far Away Seem Closer

Great broadband bundles can help you to stay in touch with relatives who would otherwise seem too far away. Please be warned that although the above bundles offer you unlimited data, there is always a cap on how much you can use. You should be able to find out exactly how much ‘Unlimited’ means before you take out a contract.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on your data usage so you don’t get close to receiving a call from your service provider. It has happened before, and could happen again if you download a lot of data. Know what your limits are, and use your data sensibly so you get great value for money and you’re able to talk to your relatives abroad a few times a week without worrying about usage.

Phil Turner was really cross at the monthly cost of his home phone and with international calls included it was crazy
