How to give relief to arthritis through Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a traditional Hindu system of medicine and according to them; arthritis is an accumulation of toxins with some aggravated Vata and weak Agni. The main dosha in case of arthritis in Vata and so in most of the treatments the Vata pacifying ingredients are used.

There are many arthritis Ayurvedic remedies available these days and one can try this treatment process to get relief.

Ayurvedic Treatments for Arthritis

The main motto of healing arthritis here is to dislodge the Ama from the joint and then bring it back to the colon so that it can be eliminated with the help of different remedies, herbs and cleansing treatments. Here are some popular remedies that one can think of when it comes to Ayurveda.

Abhyanga Massage

This is also known as the oil massage and if one does that on a daily basis then it can be the best prevention method of any degenerative arthritis. One can get this massage from any Ayurvedic therapist who are trained properly and have a lot of experience. Or else, one can also go for a self massage.

For that, one needs to heat approximately a cup of oil (it is a good idea to take organic sesame oil) and then cover the entire body from scalp to toes. Then one needs to use vigorous long strokes on the larger areas of the body like forearms and thighs and then do some circular movements in the joints. One also needs to rub oil into the tissue so that they can dislodge the Ama. This is a very pleasant massage experience and one needs to do it at least 10 minutes on a regular basis. Once the massage is over, one can take a relaxing hot bath with Epsom salt so that all the impurities are drawn out from the body.

Castor Oil

This is a very common ingredient used in Ayurveda treatments and it is very effective on rheumatoid arthritis. They have some properties which can reduce inflammation and that is why; it is also used as a treatment in rheumatoid arthritis. This oil is mainly used to treat stiffness, swelling, pain on the joints and muscle cramps. One can mix some turmeric with castor oil and then apply on the affected joint. Then wrap the area with a plastic wrap or a dish towel. Then place a hot water bottle on top of it. Keep it for at least 10 minutes and one can feel relief from the pain after this.

Pranayama

It is said that Sheetali Pranayama is very effective on arthritis. One needs make a tube with their tongue and then breathe deeply through the mouth and draw the air into the belly. Hold the breath for at least 7 seconds and then exhale it through the nose. Do it at least 15 times a day. This can give relief to the body and joint pains.
