The life skills that your 9-12 grader child must possess

Parents have a great influence on the growth of their children. It may be visible or not, parents play a very important role in how a child grows. His thought process, decision making abilities, intelligence, manners, and behaviour are all influenced by the people around them. Hence, parents have a very important role to play in helping the child to develop life skills.

There are many life skills that a person must learn in order to lead a content life. Parents must make it a point to encourage interests and activities that promote their child to learn different life skills. You never know when a life skill may come in handy. When the child is in 9 – 12 grade, it is especially important to know what he or she is learning and from where. The skills that they learn at this age are the ones that they will be using all their life.

Here is a life skills curriculum for a child of 9 grades to 12 grades –

Leadership qualities –

The whole world has become one big rat race. Everyone is trying to outdo the other. There is always completion, be it at school or in job. When there are so many people, your child must learn to lead them. Being a leader is not an easy task. It takes confidence, power, and knowledge to be on the frontline. From an early age, your child must be taught to be confident when he is told to monitor an entire crowd. When the fear of leadership is washed out at a young age, the child will be good in heading business or any other career without fear.

Adaptability –

Your child cannot be in the comforts of your home forever. In a few days, the children may have to leave for college or job. They will not have parents with them to look after their daily chores, works and studies. So, your child must be ready to adapt to whichever place he goes to. Changes must be accepted with grace and your child should be prepared to face any type of life changing events.

Finance sense –

Money is a concept that must be introduced to your child at a young age so that he will know the value of it. Help your child to learn about monetary issues. The children should make notes of their personal finances and how they spend money. When they keep a tab of their finances from a young age, they will be good spenders as they grow up.

Decision making skills –

As the child grows, the parents cannot take all their decisions. The children must be given the freedom of making decisions about their own life. When they have the responsibility of deciding something crucial, the children will learn to face problems with better clarity and self-confidence.

These are the most basic skills that life skills class should teach your children. Eventually, these will help your child to compete and lead in this 21st century.
