Who Is Ram Nath Kovind, the Second Dalit President!

Results of Presidential Elections was declared on July 20, 2017 (Thursday) and Ram Nath Kovind got 65.6% of the total votes where as his opposition’s joint candidate, Meira Kumar secured only 34% votes. Kovind who has won seat through Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP) is political guru of current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

His main concern is towards the welfare and development of weaker section of society including Scheduled Castes, Dalits, Backward Class and minorities since his young age. Here are some facts about our President

– Ram Nath Kovind belongs to a Dalit weaving community in Paraukh village of Kanpur Dehat district, Uttar Pradesh on October 1, 1945.

-He is Graduate had graduated in Commerce and Law from Kanpur University.

-Kovind  was theis first member from Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP) to hold the presidency.

-Ram Nath Kovind is member of many Committees including, Parliamentary Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, Parliamentary Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes/Tribes, Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs, Parliamentary Committee on Law and Justice.

-Kovind is the first person from Uttar Pradesh to hold the office of President of India.

-In October-2002, he addressed the United Nations General Assembly and represented India in the United Nations.

-He is mMarried to Savita Kovind and has a son and a daughter named Prashant Kumar and Swati respectively.

-In April 1994, Ram Nath Kovind became a Rajya Sabha MP until 2006(12 years consecutively)

-He is an advocate by profession. From 1977 to 1979, he was central government’s advocate in the Delhi high court. In 1978, Kovind became the Advocate-on-Record of the Supreme Court. He officially registered as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1971.

-He also performed his duties for IIM Kolkata and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Lucknow as board member.

-Kovind passed Civil Services Exam in third attempt and selected for allied service but he dropped that option and started practicing law.

-From 1977 – 1988, he served as personal assistant of then Prime Minister of India, Morarji Desai.

-He was appointed as Governor of Bihar on 8th August 2015.
