Spread of internet shopping boom to rest of India

Though maximum buyers for online products are from metros, it is catching up fast in smaller towns like Mysore, Jamshedpur and Nasik. Most of the buyers are attracted towards TVs and cell phones. As per report Tier II and Tier III cities have shown 65% growth in e-commerce. Bangalore, New Delhi and Chennai are the top cities for the e-commerce and many smaller cities such as Mysore, Nasik and Jamshedpur have become top emerging cities for year 2014. E-commerce firm stated that these towns were not behind their metro counterparts in logging on to internet for shopping favorite brands. This study was conducted and the report revealed that LED TVs, entry level phones and smart phones came on top of the list and pet grooming and gourmet foods were emerging fast.

Report states that Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Pune, Noida and Mumbai are top ten cities concerning e-commerce. At the same time Mysore, Udaipur, Nasik, Patiala, Mangalore, Dehradun, Anand, Durgapur, Ponducherry and Durgapur are top ten cities that are emerging fast. It is believed that Tier II and Tier III cities would cater for 65% growth of e-commerce and the demand for goods from these Tier II and Tier III cities is increasing substantially.

The present boon in e-commerce is because of various factors such as increasing use of smart phones, superior internet infrastructure, better education, higher income and vast choice of items available at one place at much cheaper costs at online shopping portals like Snapdeal using Snapdeal discount coupons. Large chains in India cater for 10% of market and because of this generally small towns lack access to products available at metros. This makes them log on internet to find and place order for the items of their choice online market is growing. The survey indicates that online retail market is growing at the rate of 35% annually and online retail market is now Rs 2000 crores. By 2016 it is likely to increase by 45%. By 2015 online retail industry in India will perhaps touch Rs 7000 crores because of extensive use of internet.

In next two years, India is likely to be largest country of internet users. Potential of the online retail industry has been appreciated by the leading companies and they wish to take advantage of others. The survey was conducted on 5000 customers and 40% of these preferred online shopping mainly because of convenience in shopping. With very busy schedule people hardly have any time to go for shopping. They can shop online at any time and place as per their requirement. There is no need to go from store to another searching for particular items as all these could be located at one place and there prices compared on different sites.
