Tips For A Safe & Hassle-free Trip

Last updated on December 14, 2015

The world is not a dangerous place, but there are people that you would rather avoid meeting, especially when you are travelling. Your trip could be a thousand times better if you keep a few safety rips in mind for when you travel, especially when you are going alone. It is better to have a good idea of where you are going and what to expect. It doesn’t matter if the country you are going to is rich or poor, there is always a set level of danger and it is best that you know what to do before you depart or when you encounter it.

It is important that you have a checklist of everything that needs to be done before and after you have reached your destination. Everything from your finances to your packing needs to be cleared before you leave.

A few things that you can do to make sure you travel safely.

Clear all Credit Card Issues

Before you leave for your trip, it is important that you call your credit card company. Tell them where you are going, give them the necessary information. Ask the company how much credit you have so that you do not breach the limit when you are abroad. Nothing hurts a trip more than your credit card getting frozen.

Know the Local Emergency Numbers

Your family’s numbers might be etched into your mind, but it is also a good idea to keep a track of the local numbers. There are always a few numbers that should be saved into your phone, because anything can happen when you are abroad. A few numbers that should always be with you when you travel are:

  • Hospital

  • Police Station

  • Embassy

  • Fire Station

  • Cab company

Giving your hotel or your Edinburgh accommodation apartments will also be a good idea. They can contact you as easily as you can, in case of an emergency.

Stay Healthy

When packing, make a list of all the prescription medications that you need. Get vaccinated before you leave and take extra precautions when going to lesser developed countries. When taking medications, be aware of what is allowed in the country you wish to visit because there are things that are disallowed in various countries and getting mixed up in legal matters is best avoided.

Avoid Shortcuts

Even if you think you know a city well enough when you are there, take the main routes. Consult online maps, rather than asking locals for shorter routes. It is never a good idea to take a shirt cut because you can get lost and be an easy target for thieves and pickpockets.

Avoid Cultural Exhibitions

It might seem like a good idea to immerse yourself in the traditions and customs of the locals, but unless you have a very good idea of what is offensive and what is not, it would be best to avoid it. The smallest things can be offensive so it is best to be careful.

Staying safe should be the key when travelling, especially in this day and age. Emailing a list of what you wish to do when abroad will keep your family updated. Use the internet and regularly make posts on your social networking website. Let others know where you are will also give you assurance and let them know in case something happens.
