Tips for a Successful Fundraiser

Have you recently joined a fundraising committee of some kind? Or maybe you were just put in charge of the fundraising for something your child is involved in like choir, dance, band, sports, etc.? Whatever the case, being involved with a fundraiser means you need to start thinking about raising money quickly and effectively.

Whether this is your first or thousandth fundraiser you can always benefit from a list of tips/advice. The following is one list of tips that will help your fundraiser go more smoothly, feel more productive, and end more successfully:

Start Early

Start your fundraising endeavors as early as possible because before you know it your deadlines will be creeping up on you and whatever you are fundraising for will need that money. Starting out early will help you better set goals according to dates in the future and it will help you to be more flexible in case something goes wrong with one of your fundraising ideas.

Set Goals

Your fundraising goals should be set pretty high, but not so high that those who hear/see it believe it is going to be impossible and therefore do not donate or help. If you find that while you are fundraising you are getting close to your goal then you should probably set that goal even higher so that people keep donating.

Ask for a LOT of Ideas

When you have your very first fundraising meeting make sure you ask for a LOT of fundraising ideas, you may not use them all but it is always a good idea to have plans, backup plans, and sideline plans when it comes to raising money. Do not scoff at any one’s idea, write them all down then discuss as a group which ones you believe you could accomplish.

Use Social Media/Donation Page

Using the latest technology is the way businesses stay up-to-date and current with their customers, this is how you can stay communicated and current with potential donators. Create a donation fundraising page (like a blog) and link that page to social media accounts like:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Pinterest

Make sure you start by making a donation on your own fundraising page; no one wants to be the first one to donate so if you have something there to begin with, people will be more likely to donate. Personalize your page and your social media by adding pictures and videos of the organization you are doing fundraising work for.

Ask Everyday People/Businesses

It is time to start thinking about your fundraiser all the time. When you go to get your hair done, when you go out to eat, when you go to the doctor’s office, etc. wherever you go and whatever you are doing you need to be thinking about your fundraiser so that you can ask everyday people and businesses whether or not they would be interested in participating in fundraising/donating to your cause or organization.

Printing

You will also need to have some kind of plan for your fundraising materials like signs and posters. Fundraiser printing in Alexandria is just one example of a place you can go to have your signs professional done and printed.
