Top Five Things to Avoid When Promoting Your Business

Last updated on December 13, 2015

There are a lot of things you need to avoid when you’re promoting your brand. A lot of them have to do with letting people have space while you’re promoting, and some of them are obvious. Things like don’t insult your customers. You’ll do a lot of promotion for your business, and even though you’ll do a lot of printing in Salt Lake City, you won’t do everything there. Even the best printing companies around Salt Lake City won’t be able to give you all the tips you need. The finest printing services outside Salt Lake City will just be able to take care of your hard copies. So if you need web design, banners or business cards, you can go to shops in Salt Lake City, but you should avoid these five items so you can keep away a faux pas your business can ill afford.

1. Silent customer service

One thing people can’t stand is being ignored. If someone tries to contact your business in some way and they never hear back, they’re going to have a much worse impression of you than if you’d botched the interaction. If your customer service representatives do a bad job, there’s a chance for your business to make reparations. If, on the other hand, your business never responds, people will think you just don’t care.

2. Being unprofessional

Being professional is more than just wearing sharp clothing. If you run a landscaping company, for example, you’re not going to show up each day in a suit. You’re also going to want to be sure to produce the right image for the public. Whether you do blue- or white-collar work, be sure that you both look and act the part so people can have confidence in you.

3. Spamming

Although you don’t want to make people feel ignored, you don’t want to overwhelm them, either. There are a lot of different kinds of spamming, whether it’s “link spamming,” where you try to insert links wherever you can, or more common email spamming. Major corporations usually set rules for communication frequency; for example, they won’t send emails to customers more than twice weekly. Remember to not be too aggressive.

4. Not knowing your story

Although this is tied closely to professionalism, knowing your story means you’ll be able to have confidence when you’re speaking with someone about your goods or services. It can be very awkward for a salesperson—or someone in marketing—to get tongue-tied when confidence and competence is required.

5. Being unrealistic or dishonest

NEVER promise something you can’t deliver or something that someone will doubt. If someone hears your message and doubts what you’re saying, you’ll be lucky if all you lose is your credibility. If you promise something over-the-top, people might start thinking you’re a crook and they can’t trust you. At the worst, you might get the Federal Trade Commission called on you and you could lose a lot more than just your credibility.

A lot of the communications you put out will probably be printed. So when you do printing in Salt Lake City, you’re going to want to keep these things in mind. A lot of printing services in Salt Lake City will provide good advice, but they might not be able to offer web design, business cards and banners. The best thing to do is to take a little time to really think about what you want to say, then find a printing company in Salt Lake City that can help you realize that vision.
