Water is one of the four basic elements and is widely known for its passivity, and we definitely enjoy watching water bodies for numerous hours without a sign of motion within ourselves.
Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya, one of the seven sister states in the North-eastern part of India, which is frequented my tourists for its thick forests and fauna. So, waterfalls are definitely attractions tourists would expect from the state of Meghalaya. Owing to the miracles of nature and being in the hilly terrain with ample number of rivers and tributaries flowing, the town of Shillong itself houses numerous waterfalls in and around it.
We will tell you about the falls which we think are a must visit, but we do advice you to definitely check out all those in and around Shillong!

Bishop and Beadon Falls
Situated 2 kilometres from the Bara Bazaar in the East Khasi Hills district of Shillong, the Bishop and Beadon falls are known together as the Twin falls. The twin falls are famous for their extremely high height of fall and frequented by adventure lovers as they have a well laid out walking trail. The trees and the ever-green vegetation of the surroundings will keep you cool and relaxed for as long as you wish, at either of the falls. So, we didn’t find a reason to not put on your trekking shoes and walk up the trail to explore new waters.

Elephant Falls
Located 12 kilometres from the city of Shillong, the Elephant falls is a tourist attraction that should not be missed by anyone who visits Shillong. Composed of stepped rocks, the many creeks that split at various places along its trajectory mingle into one to create a heavy flow of water, thus gaining the name Elephant falls, for the volume of water it decimates. The algae covered rocks under the sunlight radiate beautiful green colours which adds to the beauty and creates a complete picture!

Crinoline Falls
Situated right in the heart of the town, Crinoline falls is one fall that isn’t missed by any visitor visiting Shillong. The fall isn’t one of the highest or the widest but is definitely one of the coolest because it’s right in the center of the city. Full of enchanted orchids that boost the picturesque view and the naturally formed pool of water at the bottom make it an amazing spot for an instant getaway. The swimming pool at the bottom is also accessible to anyone and everyone who is looking for a bath, or a swim!

Spread Eagle Falls
Interpretable from the name, the Spread-Eagle waterfall is known for its wide breadth of the falls which is in the shape of an eagle’s wing. Tucked away in the green forests 6 kilometres from the city, the Spread-Eagle falls makes for the best picnic spot in the vicinity of Shillong. Calm surroundings with the huge waterfall pouring beside would definitely make your day unlike any monotonous travel day and you could generate some refreshing thoughts while on your holiday in Shillong.

Sweet Falls
Located in the Happy valley in the neighbourhood of Shillong, the Sweet falls is a sight to cherish from far, just like everything dangerous is to be kept at a distance. The Sweet falls is surrounded by dense jungle and steep hills, and the water pours which a very large difference in altitudes just like water poured out of a pipe. Though the view is only from a distance, the grandeur of the falls is captured in its entirety from the tourist viewpoints.
Once at a tourist place, always cover every location of tourist interest the place has to offer so that you don’t regret about missing the beauty of the place later when you hear someone mention about it. Shillong known for its natural beauty, thick forests and weather is also famous for picnic spots and waterfalls.
