Creating a Great Work Environment

Compliance training will help you to create better employees, but how can you become a better boss? And how can you create a great work environment that will help those employees to do better, work harder, and feel more comfortable? For answers to those questions you have come to the right place, creating a great work environment takes a little effort on your part as an employer; it is not something that just happens, unless you are very lucky.

The following is a list of tips/advice on how you can create a better work environment for yourself and your employees:

Have and Encourage Conversation

Make the effort to engage in meaningful conversations with your employees and encourage them to do the same amongst themselves. Create a community among your employees by building an environment where people enjoy working with the people around them. You can do this by encouraging team events like luncheons or other onsite/offsite gatherings. This cannot be a one-time thing, relationships take time to develop and you need to allow time for your employees to develop those meaningful relationships. Having conversations with your employees will also help to establish a relationship based on care which will motivate people to do better and work harder

Show Appreciation

Show your appreciation for your employees and the hard work they do. If an employee is encouraged and thanked and actually feels appreciated he or she will feel like continuing to do better and to go above and beyond the call of duty. Don’t simply say, “You’re doing a good job” be specific and give detailed praise so that your employees know what to focus on and so that they know you are actually paying attention.

Listen to All Ideas

Your employees are the ones doing the day-to-day work and they are the ones who have more contact with your customers which means they know what is going on, they know how your customers think, they know what works and what does not. Do not let all this information and wisdom go to waste by not asking and listening to everyone’s ideas. As the old saying goes, “two brains are better than one” which means more than two brains has got to be fantastic and ten times better than one. Use the knowledge your employees have gained and make them feel appreciated for having ideas and sharing them in the first place.

Give Employees Real Data and Company Information

Don’t simply tell your employees that the numbers are down for the month or that they have been doing well recently. Give your employees real hard evidence and company data/information so that they can see the differences and so that they can form their own ideas of what works and what does not.

Support Ownership Thinking

If your employees do not feel like they are a real driving force in the company they will not feel any ownership in what they do or how the company fares in the world. Support ownership thinking.

Encourage Honesty

When an employee comes up to you and tells you the truth about something you would have rather not heard, respond positively. You do not want employees shirking away from the truth or telling you only the things they think you want to hear. Always encourage honesty.

All of this combined with your employees becoming better employees through compliance training will help your work environment to be a great one.
