Fashion Tips for Lawyers
While looks certainly aren’t crucial for being a successful lawyer, in the fast-paced world that we live in, first impressions are usually very important. Whether you’re having a meeting with a potential client, business partner or trying a case in court, it is important for any lawyer (male or female) to look good. By looking good we don’t mean that you have to look like a super model or anything, you just have to make sure that you look clean, well groomed and well dressed. Attire for lawyers tends to be on the more classic side, though that doesn’t mean you can’t at least put a bit of personality into your outfit. Below are a few fashion tips that can help you look your best at the office or in court.
Attire For Female Lawyers
Women usually have some more options for dressing fashionably, but still professional, which makes it more fun, but also more challenging to go shopping for work outfits. A few tailored suits are a must in any female lawyer’s wardrobe. Besides these suits, which are your go to outfits for any important engagements, you also need a few more casual outfits. You can let yourself go a bit more here. Depending on what you prefer to wear you can get some casual/professional dresses, skirts, blouses, skinny pants, etc. Make sure that you keep it elegant and don’t get anything too outlandish. Bright colors for example are a definite no-go as a lawyer. You want to stick to white, black, grey and pastel colored items. If you get a bit bored of those colors, you can add some red for when you’re in the office. Also avoid any large earrings or other large or bright accessories. For shoes, get some classic black heels that are not too high.
Male Lawyer Wardrobe
While it’s often thought that men have it a lot easier than women when it comes to dressing professionally, this is not completely true. In order to look your best, there are a few things to pay attention to. Obviously, as a male lawyer you need some classic, tailored suits. You can get some off the rack suits if you are lucky enough to find any that fit you perfectly, but in most cases you’ll need to have some modifications done. Suits that are too big or too small just look bad. Color wise you should go for brown, pin-striped, blue or grey suits. Shirts and ties are where you can put some personality into your attire. Don’t be afraid to add a bit of color to your outfit with your shirts and ties. This doesn’t mean you can wear flower shirts though, but get some subtly colored and patterned shirts. Also, make sure that your tie and shirt always matches. This is where a lot of men go wrong, often making them look rather silly. If you have a plain colored shirt, your tie can be patterned, if you’re wearing a patterned shirt however, you’ll want to wear a plain colored tie. Always make sure that your shirt and tie’s colors match. For shoes, get some leather lace ups in either brown or black.
