How Is Geometry Used in Real Life?

I’m sure everyone has had that doubt when they study a topic of statistics or geometryin school, ‘Will I ever be using this in real life?’ Well set your facts right because you will. How helpful it will be is on the basis of how you apply it in your daily endeavors. Everything you see has a piece of geometry in it, might be a strain of hair to the largest building in the world. A meticulous understanding of geometry has enabled our species to reach the level of technological innovation at which we are now. Let us look at a few of the key aspects in our life where a profound understanding of geometry will make life easier.

1.Design and Construction: Whenever someone has a project build happening, they need to have an idea of what is to be done and what is required to get it done. Consider the simple example of building a fence around a property. The builder must first figure out the perimeter of the property to get an idea of what the length of the fence should be and accordingly make arrangements for the materials required. Geometry helps to make a plan what is to be done. If you get into the serious cases of geometry, a thorough understanding of geometry is required to design the load bearing beams and trusses of buildings and bridges.

2.Sports and Athletics: With everyone being interested in one or the other form of a sport, the application of geometry in sports can be stated easily. Supposedly when someone kicks a football in a soccer game, the person initially uses geometry to find the ideal trajectory for the ball to reach its intended target and makes the shot. Similarly in hockey, the designers use geometry to find the angle of the compound to cut off at the edge of the hockey stick and how long to make the shaft. For athletic events, to draw the track and field events geometry is used again for the semi-circular, arc shapes on the track.

3.Recreational activities: From games to quilting, the influence of geometry is undeniable. To bring about a greater experience of depth and movement, interaction between geometric shapes is the basic foundation for all video games. Certain other activities like making a kite, creating Lego’s structures, quilting require geometry to make the most efficient use of space and resources as well as creating a project with good visual appeal. Especially in quilting where precise shapes are required to create that sense of visual appeal which is made possible by geometry.

4.Mapping: For surveying, navigation and astronomy with geometry we can track and record coordinates with the help of geometry. For navigation purposes, we need to map out every piece of land and water mass we have considering elevations and depressions. To do this, geometry has enabled us to create a complex yet readable system of maps, which made navigating on earth simpler and organized.

As you can see, geometry has a substantial and unavoidable involvement in our lives justifying the need to have a thorough recognition of geometry to excel with day to day tasks. To understand what we learn properly, we need it to be explained to us properly with the right means such as using 3D animated video lectures not leaving room for doubts or misconceptions.
