1. National Library, Kolkata
Other than being a treasure trove of books, the National Library, Kolkata is also known for its ghost stories and sightings. During its renovation, twelve workers lost their lives in an accident. There are several stories associated with this library, out of which the most famous is of student who died a mysterious death while browsing through books in the library. The watchmen frequently dread to take up the evenings shifts here. It is also said that the footsteps of the Governor’s wife can still be heard inside the library premises.
2. Golconda Fort, Hyderabad
According to legends, the skilled mistress, Taramati, got Abdullah Qutb Shah’s attention with her singing and dancing capacities, and he made her his queen. The walls of the English Gothic architecture holds the tale of two spiritualists, Miss Frances Garnett-Orme and Miss Eva Mountstephen, who came to stay here in 1911. One morning, Miss Frances was found mysteriously dead and her autopsy reports revealed that her drink had been poisoned. Since then, Miss Frances’ ghost is said to be roaming around the hotel, looking for the person who poisoned her. Hope she doesn’t take you to be her murderer!
4. The Shaniwarwada Fort, Pune
Known for its sheer compositional splendor, the Shaniwarwada is at its terrific best on every full moon night. The puzzling story behind the odd events that happen here link back to a young king who was mercilessly killed here, which is perhaps why his soul frequents the spot and when the dusk falls, sounds of his yelling can be heard. There are numerous local people who really camp during the evening on the fortress grounds just to hear the young man’s shouting. Visit this spot at your own particular risk as this is the most haunted place in Pune, India.
5. Writer’s Building, Kolkata
built in Kolkata, this building is another celebrated landmark that is having some sporadic happenings taking place time and again. It is believed that the ghost of the loathsome inspector who was murdered here by three daring rebels of India, still wanders in the building.
