One of the world’s largest handset manufacturers, Micromax who is trying its best to take over Samsung in the Android market has just broadcasted the February launch of its very own and new mobile handset A116 Canvas HD. This product will unquestionably prove to be a hot seller in India as it is told to be estimated at less than Rs.15000. It will be a fantastic price and value for money for the all features it promises to offer. Let’s take a look at this new Product.
Processor and OS- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS has been loaded in the Micromax A116 Canvas HD. It is also loaded with a 1GB RAM which would sufficiently improve the performance of this Smartphone. However, the biggest attraction in this device by Micromax, which is eagerly awaited, is the MT6589 from Mediatek. Micromax A116 has a 1.2GHz quad-core Mediatek MT6589 processor combined with a PowerVR SGX5 GPU, which replaces the Adreno GPU. As claimed by Micromax, this is the world’s first commercially feasible quad-core Cortex-A7 SoC. Now what does that mean for you and me? Basically, this allows for the processor to provide support for full HD content and also manage a 13MP camera. Additionally, this not only handles the 3D content but also converts 2D recording to 3D. That would be a fantastic. The Micromax A116 also brags of dual-SIM capabilities and has 4GB built-in storage expandable up to 32GB. The MT6589 in the processor supports the dual active SIM card capability, which allows the user to use both the SIM at the same time without blocking one during the use of another.
Design – Only 1.7mm thin, the phone is very slim looking and comfortable to hold. Weighing about 168 grams, A116 is relatively heavier in the smart phone category.
Display- Micromax A116 has a 5-inch display screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. An immediate difference in the display can be seen from its previous device A110.
Memory- Looking at the not so good side of this device is its memory, the Micromax A116 comes only with 4GB committed storage which although is expandable through its MicroSD slot but only up to 32GB, which may not be good enough for today’s Smartphone customers.
Battery- Micromax A116 has2100 mAh battery, which offers up to 5 hours of talk time and about 300 hours of standby time. From the processor’s point, this may not be enough to keep up with the 1.2GHz quad-core processor.
Camera- This Smartphone s mail camera has an 8 MP sensor, which is good enough for taking pictures in good resolution. The better news is that this camera makes HD video recording possible. Other features such as digital zoom; auto focus and LED flash etc. are also very well supported in this camera for better image quality. The device is also loaded with the 0.3 MP secondary cameras (appropriate for video calls). However, in the age of video calls the front camera may prove to be a disappointment to its customers. This front-facing camera of the A116 is a little backward in comparison to its peers when most smart phones these days have front cameras are suitable of shooting 720p at least.
