When you find rented flats for rent in Pune, safety must be your top priority. But it is difficult to know whether the place or the neighbors are safe until you start living there. Moreover, if you are moving to a completely new city or country, it becomes harder to know which apartment is safe and which is not. Still, it is better to take some precaution before moving to a rented apartment. For your benefit, here are certain tips to be safe on a new place. These can give you basic safety ideas.
What to do before Moving to a Rented Apartment
It is said that precaution is better than prevention. So, before the final deal on a new apartment, it is very important to decide the safety measures so that you can protect you and your family from any undesired incidents-
1. Know the Criminal Activities– Before signing up the lease agreement, research on the criminal activities of the area you are planning to move. Talk to your future landlord and the neighbors to know the situation. You can also make contact with the local police station to make out the present picture of that area.
2. Scrutinize General Maintenance– When you decide to take rented rental apartments or flats in Pune, it is your top-most duty to scrutiny the area as well as your dwelling place. If you find any broken doors or windows, or cracked walls, ask your landlord to prepare those.
3. Check Lighting System– Thugs and robbers generally sneak in the dark areas. So, while you’re choosing an apartment, check every place to be considerably lit up. From the entrances to your room, the hallways and the lift- every place should have illuminated at night. The less the intruders find place to hide, the more secure you’re.
4. Choose Upper Floors– You may find it flexible to take first-floor flats as those are cheaper than the upper ones. But you can’t ignore the fact that the first-floor flats are easily available for thieves. So, it may cost you some more money, but take room at 2nd or 3rd floor.
5. Examine the Entrance– It is very important to check the entrance minutely. There are many apartments which have passing codes, security keys etc. so that only members can access those. These systems prevent intruders to enter anytime.
6. Modify Locking System– Often landlords tell that they have replaced old locks. But the apartment managers sometimes rotate old locks among apartments and may not return the extra keys. So, before taking the apartment, install completely new locking system.
7. Install a Peephole– If it is already there, then OK. But if isn’t, ask your landlord to install one. This system can keep your family safe as you can see who the other side of the door is before you open it.
8. Install Security System– There are many companies which sell to renters. Look for those ones. Earlier, due to a meddling installation process, the security systems were not provided to the renters. But, now there are several options that renters can use. Also, such systems are easy to take to next residence while you move on from the current place.
9. Get Renters Insurance– You’ve taken every precautions. But accidents never inform you beforehand. So, it is better to insure your personal valuables. You can find several companies which insure your valuables at $20 per month.
