If you are preparing for an interview, this is for you.
Be Open To Different Jobs
After you have made a decent resume, gotten the right network to link you up and selected your area of specialty, jobs may start popping up that may or may not be related to those areas of specialties. What do you do in such circumstances? You take up the challenge. You may be very keen on doing specific jobs or you may have set your price and are not willing to go below that. However, you never know if the job can be a channel for more opportunities. It might lead you up to other jobs that catch your attention or even the ideal job that you want.
Go For As Many Interviews As Possible
See every interview you go for as an opportunity to expand your existing network for jobs. Going through interviews makes you more confident, so you can really ace the ones that matter. It is okay even if you are not selected. It will strengthen you. It can sometimes take a few interviews until you land a job. Do not be discouraged, the perfect job is just at the corner.
Tell Your Interviewers About Yourself
The most common mistake people make is be their average selves and keep their talents to themselves. They might think the talents they have cannot be utilized in a particular job but that is a mistake. You want to tell the employer how diverse you can be. You are a unique person. You have your own personality. Tell your interviewers about this. Market yourself.
Practice Makes Perfect
Another mistake you can make is not practice and just go to the interview without preparation. However, anyone would advise practicing for it before going. Think about what you have learnt over the years, what differentiates you from others, what makes you special and what you know you have the capacity to give to the employers.
Write it in your resume or say it out, it boosts your confidence, increases your self-awareness and differentiates you from others. When you see the letter of interview, you can figure out the forms of questions they are likely to ask, so do your research. Form questions and prepare answers.
Be Formal
Being formal cuts across all aspect, in your dressing, in how you communicate, in your composure, and everything else. While communicating for revenue jobs, avoid the use of colloquial terms and the use of words like “uhm”, “hey”, “hmm”. You want to show them how well you can present yourself which will transpire into how well you can represent the company in front of others.
In your dressing, do not overdress. Be simple and comfortable. Your clothes should be ironed and clean.
Be Relaxed
Take a deep breath when you realize you are getting anxious. Try to remember those stories that keep you calm and take your mind off the interview. Also remember, it is just an interview, nothing more. There will be more opportunities in life.
