The Future of Smartphones

Last updated on December 14, 2015

Did you know that a new Android update is just around the corner? The Google team is on the brink of releasing its latest and better-than-ever-before update to the recently-launched Android KitKat. The update is called Android L and promises to be bigger and better than the 4.3 Jelly Bean update in terms of a more user friendly interface, better multitasking abilities and higher data performance. When Google released the KitKat, it was a vast improvement in terms of features and functions over its predecessor, Jelly Bean. The same could be noted at the time of the Ice Cream Sandwich update. The Android L, which is rumoured to be the acronym of Lollipop, is due to be launched before the end of 2014. It is expected to offer a better, smarter and simpler Android performance, faster multitasking, more compatibility to office tools, and have a better respond rate to the ‘Ok Google’ voice command. Such enhancements can take the mobile experience to new heights.

When we shop mobiles online these days, we are spoilt for choice. There is something for every budget. While most of us scrutinize the hardware, we forget to consider the operating system, which is the brain of our cell phones.

Things to Expect in the New Range of Smartphones

Here are some things that may reshape the world of Smartphones in the near future:

  • Augmented Reality (AR): The basic meaning of this word relates to what we perceive through our senses, enhanced by using computer-generated sensory inputs, including GPS, graphics, music, data and videos. In layman terms, AR helps combine more information and data of a computer to our everyday lives. This can help simplify a number of existing functions. For instance, one will be able to take the picture of a place and the AR technology will be able to roll out information about nearby areas of interest and even its history. Such AR applications rely heavily on your location and require GPS to be turned on.
  • Flexible Screens: This feature can be seen in the latest iPhone, which has a flexible metal body that can be manipulated. It may soon happen that Smartphones are able to maintain a pocketable size while having a flexible and bigger screen. Such changes have led companies to plan wearable phone, which can be worn on your wrist and folds easily. Imagine that you are browsing to shop mobiles online and you end up purchasing a watch with features of a smartphone!
  • In-built projector: For a bigger screen experience, the phones may even have an in-built projector. A version of this was already launched in 2010, where the cell phone had built-in a DLP (Digital Light Projection) and produced a 50-inch image at 15 lumens. This technology can result in interactive gaming features without the need of a computer or television.
  • Seamless voice commands: Voice controls have been making waves since the launch of ‘Siri’ in iPhones. Similarly, the ‘Ok Google’ function already allows us to operate certain functions vocally and may be further developed to handle most or all of the phone’s functions. From messaging, video streaming, playing games to browsing, the voice feature is capable of taking over most manual commands. The need to operate your phone manually will start decreasing gradually.
  • Holograms and 3D screens: Technologic growth has made it possible for us to view 3D images at a movie and project sharper holograms. This revolution began with the launch of Apple’s ‘Retina Display’ that is capable of providing a resolution that is even sharper than what our naked eyes perceive. Just three companies have launched their first generation 3D phones and many more are expected to follow. Once the 3D feature is taken care of, we may even be able to project holographic images outside the device and customize our pictures and videos.

Whether with an iOS, Windows or Android operating system, shop mobiles online today and be a part of the ongoing revolution in the smartphone industry.
