Most people who are promoting their business on YouTube focus more on the amount of views that they get on their videos than they do on the amount of comments the videos generate. So, while you are busy getting views, there is an area that you are leaving out entirely. It’s not just about getting people to watch your videos but you also want to engage them and generate a conversation at the same time. So, how can you engage your viewers more to get them to post in the comments section of your videos? The following are some tips for doing just that.
It’s Important to be Consistent
While it is important to post videos regularly, it is more important to be consistent when you post. So, instead of posting a video every week, post a video every Tuesday at one in the afternoon. Your regular viewers will come to depend on that time frame and will look forward to your videos. This will also enable them to engage with you more because they will appreciate your efforts and will make comments about what your latest offering. Also, be consistent when answering comments or engaging in conversation with your community. Don’t make people wait a week for a reply to a question or not answer a question at all. It’s important that they feel that you care about their thoughts and reactions and you have to make the effort to do so.
Engage Outside of YouTube
Yes, you want to have conversations on your videos to build up your comments but you should also engage on other social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. This allows your viewers to see you as more than just one dimensional. They will be more apt to engage on YouTube if you make yourself available on other social media sites. You can also use these sites to promote your videos and while you’re at it, you can ask them to head to YouTube and let you know what you think of your productions. What you are really looking for here is to build up a relationship with your viewers that make them want to engage with you, not to make them feel like they have to.
Use a Call to Action
Finally, if you want your viewers to engage with you, simply ask them to by using a call to action in your description and at the end of the video. Many times people don’t think about posting comments or are afraid that their opinion may not be appreciated by the producer of the video, namely you. So let them know that you’d like to know what they think and that their opinion does matter to you. You’ll be surprised at how many people will jump in and how quickly conversations get started when you use this tactic.
When posting your videos on YouTube, you may be concentrating on getting views rather than comments. Just remember that the comments are just as important and that you need to focus some of your energies in the engagement of those who take their time to comment.
