Where the Money is in College Sports

Last updated on November 28, 2015

Americans love their sports, quite a lot actually. Statistics have shown that the NCAA has been able to bring in more than the GDP of several small countries. It is estimated that the NCAA brings in $6.2 billion per year. The weight of all of that money is more than the weight of 30 football teams.

Surprisingly, some schools have to take a financial hit just to be able to compete for national championships or other championship games. This is not even the only financial burden that schools face. Many have to undergo a long loss of money just to keep up the program. This can sometimes be attributed to schools that have to pay their coaches very high salaries just to keep up.

Not all schools face such a financial drain. There are some schools that are able to make a huge chunk of money for themselves. Texas football for example is able to bring in nearly $100 million each year for the school. This is one shining example out of many how sports can be profitable.
