WHY DO I NEED COSMETIC SURGERY?

Cosmetic surgery is often confused with plastic surgery. While plastic surgery refers to all reconstructive procedures, cosmetic surgery is just for enhancing beauty. Plastic surgeons are required to complete additional training to perform cosmetic procedures.

Cosmetic procedures are available for the beautification of most body parts. Lots of these procedures are done very commonly. Different areas have great clinics to offer depending on what procedure is being done. For example, there are quite a few good clinics for injectables in Brisbane.

Even though the procedures have become exceedingly foolproof over the years, the results are still mostly permanent. This requires great caution to be exercised while approaching such procedures. A surgeon may ask the patient to attend counselling if there is an underlying problem like Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

Types of Cosmetic Procedures

There are different procedures aimed at improving the aesthetics of different parts of the body. The following are some of the common cosmetic procedures.

Breast Surgery

Breast surgery is the most common cosmetic procedure being done in Australia. There are different types of breast surgery. Breast augmentation is the procedure done for the enlargement of breasts. This is usually done using silicone gel prosthetics or, in other cases, fat grafting.

Breast reduction is another procedure that is done to reduce breast size. This is often done to reduce any physical discomfort that could be caused. This procedure does not have anything to do with the appearance in most cases.

Breast lift procedures are also common. They involve rearranging the glandular tissue to “lift” the breasts.

Body Contouring Procedures

Buttock augmentation and lower body lifts are some of the popular body contouring procedures. Buttock augmentation enhances their appearance by making them larger. Lower body lifts remove additional skin around the hips and buttocks to enhance the contours.

Facial Procedures

As they’re commonly known, Rhinoplasty, or “nose jobs”, are procedures that aim at reshaping the nose. This can be for both cosmetic purposes and others like improving breathing.

Rhytidectomy or facelifts are meant to tighten the skin and remove wrinkles through surgery to achieve a youthful appearance. A brow lift is also a similar procedure aimed at reducing wrinkles and fix drooping eyebrows.

Less Invasive Procedures

All the approaches mentioned this far have been surgical procedures. There are also other less invasive options like peels, fillers, grafting, injectables and laser treatment. Most of these can be done at clinics like in the example of clinics for injectables in Brisbane.

Chemical peels aim at treating acne, scars and wrinkles. There are light, medium and deep peels differing by their level of penetration into the skin. The recovery time is also more for the medium and deep peels. All these peels have been proven to be safe for both dark and light skin types.

Botulinum toxin or botox is a toxin that is commonly used for facial procedures. It aims to improve appearance by treating wrinkles and creases. It is used to treat frown lines, crow’s feet and even increased sweating of the armpits.

Soft tissue fillers are implants used to treat folds and to fill the cheeks and lips. Fillings are done to improve the contour. They can also be used to reduce wrinkles and lines. They are not permanent and repetitive treatments may be necessary to maintain the appearance.

Cosmetic procedures are to be done only by professionals. The credentials of the surgeon and institution must be checked before opting in. Knowing everything, there is to know about the procedure and making an informed choice is essential.
