3 Months Strategy for UPSC Exam

By on January 5, 2018

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams are perhaps one of the most challenging examinations that are held throughout India. And the competition for the same is cut-throat. Students from all over India take out time every day to prepare for this exam so they can fare well on the final day. And to make sure that you are ahead in this game, it is essential to plan out things from the very beginning. Now that you have 3 months remaining before D-day, here are a few tips and strategies that can work out well for you as long as you stay determined and are willing to put your heart and soul into making this work well for you.

Know the Syllabus Well

This is the first and perhaps the most important thing to be done at the beginning of the 3 months. Make sure you are not missing out on any critical or small topics. Important sections naturally carry a lot of weightage while knowing enough about many small topics can help you secure a lot of marks. Do not go beyond the topic because it will only waste your time and sometimes might be too difficult to grasp, which will throw you off track and have you worry about something that is not even required.

Buy study material and keep notes because writing something helps you in learning something 3 times better than reading the same material. Make sure that when you start, you have all the required books so that you do not have to stop midway and rush around finding it.

Work on Your Handwriting

When it comes to your Mains and Essay writing, your handwriting is also an important factor. Whatever you have written becomes a lot more presentable when you write it well. Also, if it is written too shabbily, it can put the wrong perception about you even if the content is very good. Stick to the word count because exceeding it will only waste your time and if you write well below it, it might lead to deduction of marks even when it isn’t right. Vocabulary, grammatical errors, punctuation, sentence framing, etc., all of these should be worked upon from the very beginning to have a strong base on the final day.

Focus on All Sections and Papers

Simply Mains, merely the essay sections or only the personality test is not the only thing that will help you get through. Give equal weightage to every single section because you never know which one might turn out to be difficult and which one, easy. Therefore, do not depend on any one of them for all of your marks because in case you make a silly mistake, it might end up costing you a lot. Focus on the optional marks as well; they can make or break your entire result, so make a wise choice when it comes to selecting among the options you are provided with. Choose the one that you have the most amount of information and knowledge about; weigh your strength and weaknesses and make an informed decision.

Go Through Previous Year Papers

To know the format and paper pattern, make sure you go through the papers of the previous few years. This will give you a basic idea of the time that should be allotted to sections and what should be done first or last as well as about important topics and time-consuming ones. This should be done only in the last few days when you are done with your syllabus so that you are in the position of attempting the questions in the paper.

Commit and Deliver

Now that you have set your heart on something do not back out. Stay focused and concentrated because all these efforts will eventually pay off in the end. There might be a moment of fear, dissatisfaction, moments of doubt, but you have to be beyond all these temporary problems.

You might only have 3 months left, but remember that if you are determined and want it with all your heart, there is nothing that can stop you. Any strategy can work out well if you stay concentrated and do everything in your power to achieve what you wish to have. Most importantly, believe in yourself because you can be successful only when you have faith in yourself and do not give up.
