Tourist places near Jog Falls are a welcome sight for all visitors

The Jog Falls itself is one of the major tourist attractions; there are places close to it which are equally beautiful. The district of Shimoga itself has some very beautiful places which need to be seen to believe. A list of tourist places near Jog Falls is given below:

  • Kanoor fort: it is located around 50 kilometers away from the Jog Falls, it is a part of the Bhatkal town. Located with dense forest this is a place which holds historical importance. It is a very old monument, which was constructed during the time of the Keladi dynasty. During the reign of Queen Kari Maneesena Rani Abbaka Devi, this fort was built. The fort is not dilapidated or in ruins, but has been worn down a bit with time. Visiting this place is like revisiting history.
  • Tyarekoppa Lion Safari: it is one of the most adventurous tourist places near Jog Falls. The place is a hit with the young and old alike. Nature and wildlife lovers, dream to visit this place. To live in the same place as the wild cats is an exhilarating experience. The adrenaline rush while looking at a majestic lion or lioness one the prowl is beyond compare. The place is only 10 kilometers away from the city of Shimoga. It is taken care of by the Karnataka Forest Department, and that very department takes care of all the sightseeing. Not only lions but tigers, bears, deer and unseen species of birds can be spotted here. The area of the place is around 200 hectares; it is a very popular picnic spot. One can visit this safari after or before visiting the falls as it is located on the way from Shimoga to the Jog Falls.
  • Saint Thomas Church: this is one of the most peaceful tourist places near Jog Falls. The spirituality can be felt once a person enters the church. It is spread over an area of eighteen thousand square feet. The place is serene and one can feel the godliness inside the church. The prayer hall is huge; more than 5000 people can fit into the hall at a time. The magnanimity of the hall is colossal.
  • Sakrebayalu Elephant camp: this camp is especially designed for all the wildlife lovers who want to spend sometime with the wild animals. If you wish to see elephants playing in the river, then you must pay a visit at this camp before 9 am in the morning. It is 14 kilometers away from Shimoga, the elephants are trained in this camp. The mahouts are always busy talking to tourists who wish to know more about training elephants.
  • Honnemaradu: it is one of the best tourist places near Jog Falls. It is 25 kilometers away from a famous place known as the Sagara town. The back waters of the Sharavati River, form a peaceful backdrop for a good time with family and friends. One must make sure that they do not have any non-vegetarian food or alcohol with them when they are visiting the place because they are absolutely banned from the premises.
