That’s right, it’s time to remember what it was like to enjoy some free time without looking at a screen! Turn off the television, put down the cellphone and shut off the computer, after you finish reading this article of course. Not too long ago, a screenless day was easy to accomplish so let’s start using our free time to embrace technology free ways to enjoy each day.

For some incentive to start spending at least part of each day screen free, reducing screen time can help with more than giving our eyes a rest, such as:

  • Helping to decrease obesity
  • Improving mood

The perfect way to start the day without opening your eyes to a glowing screen is to practice meditation. Wake up and make meditating the first activity of the day by finding a quiet, comfortable place to sit or lay down. Ease into daily meditation by spending 5-10 minutes in your designated quiet place to focus on doing nothing but deep breathing.

Instead of scrolling endlessly through apps and webpages, try to take at least 30-minutes every day to write in a journal or diary. There are tons of benefits when you keep a journal that might surprise you. Journaling is a great way to self-reflect, set goals, record ideas, relieve stress and inspire creativity.

Turn off any screens, get up and get moving! Whether you need a break from work, life, family or roommates, there is no better way to clear your mind than by getting outside for some fresh air. Keep it simple and take a stroll around the block or make a list of local parks that you can visit for some screenless time outdoors.
