Time Management Tips For Class 10 Hindi Exam

Students who have appeared for the Class 10 board examinations complain that the question paper is always lengthy. So, if you are a first-timer, chances are that you might feel the same. Students may know answers to all the questions but miss out on marks due to the length of the question paper. This can lead to a major loss of marks at times, which clearly does not lead to a fair result. Students need to understand the importance of time and learn how to manage it effectively in board examinations.

This situation often occurs in language papers where students know what to write but don’t have the time to do so. Hindi is a scoring subject and Hindi subject can even fetch you a government job in the future. So, the question that arises here is how can you manage time? Following are a few tips you can keep in mind while preparing for the CBSE Class 10 Hindi board examination.

Read The Question Paper

For students who are not aware, you get 15 minutes before the writing exam to read the question paper. You need to utilise your time effectively. Go through the question paper at least twice. Check if all questions are printed correctly. Try to answer the questions in your head and mark questions that you find hard to answer. Marked questions can be attempted at the end of the examination. Unseen passages consume a lot of time in reading and writing. So read the unseen passages carefully in this given time.

Divide The 3 Hours And Rule The Paper

The question paper for Hindi is divided into four sections. They are reading, writing, grammar and questions from the textbook. Start your exam with the section you find difficult or time confusing for example- the writing section consumes a lot of time as there are no fixed answers and you have to think and write. There is no need to follow any particular order in sections. You can start with any section of your choice but keep in mind that you follow the order of questions under each section.

You cannot change the order of questions as it may confuse the teacher marking you and you might end up losing marks even for questions you attempted. Here is an example of how you can divide your time in an exam- reading section- 45 minutes, writing section- 60 minutes, questions based on the textbook- 40 minutes and grammar- 20 minutes and there is still time left for revision.

Move on

If you come across any question that you find difficult to solve then do not waste time on that particular question. Why move on? If the answer did not click in your mind immediately it means either you don’t know the answer or your brain is just not able to retain the answer at the moment. So just mark them and come back to the question once you finish the entire paper. If you get stuck on one question you won’t be able to write answers to questions that you know. Try to solve these questions after you have revised the answer sheet thoroughly.

Keep Word Limit Check

The answer to each question comes with a limit. It is important to keep the word limit in check with every answer. Answer briefly if the questions ask you to. You won’t fetch extra marks by writing extremely long answers for a few marks. Writing beyond word limit can have a negative effect as it might irritate the examiner to read such lengthy answers for 4 or 5 marks. Thinking and writing excessive words waste time and energy. Writing long answers for few marks also hampers the quality of your answer. So keep your answers short and crisp and to the point.

Make effective yet quick decisions

There are often choices provided among questions to students. Pick the question that you know the answer to. You can play safe and choose the easy question. At the end of the day, you will get marks for the correct answer and not for the question. Do not overthink in one marker question. A very simple mantra behind one marker is that either you know the answer or don’t. Write if you know and move on if you don’t, come back later to this question. In Multiple Choice Questions, do not overthink about the answer you have marked. Often students mark the correct answer then they overthink it and choose the wrong answer.

Practice mock tests

The importance of practising mock papers cannot be emphasized enough. Mock tests are very important for students to practice before exams, especially in language subjects like Hindi and English. Mock tests help you understand the exam patterns and are designed exactly how the question papers are designed for board examination. After practising these papers you will get the idea of sections where you consume extra time and how you can improve. Due to the COVID-19, everything is online and the habit of writing the answers at a good pace is lost. Solving these papers would help you to regain your speed and habit of writing. The mock test obviously helps with the revision too.

If you keep these tips in mind and practice them during your board examinations, you will be able to complete your exam on time. You may get stressed in the examination hall with the length of the paper but do not get intimidated. You have studied everything and now you just have to retain it all in the given time. Stress and anxiety will only refrain you from writing in exams. So keep your mind calm and be confident of what you have studied.
