Free Landscaping Ideas

Just as the right grooming and fashion makes a person stand out in the crowd, proper landscaping gives homes curb appeal and a sense of pride to homeowners. People who are bored with their present landscaping or those who do not have landscaping can easily have a beautiful yard. All they have to do is decide what they want, make a plan, and get to work! Some home owners may feel intimidated by doing their own landscaping and think that it is only for professionals. With a little planning and creativity, anyone can spruce up their yard.

Even if you have never done a landscaping project, there are a lot of ideas out there that offer basic techniques. It is not necessary to spend a lot of money on professional landscape designers when you can do a lot for yourself. Starting out simple is best; you do not have to jump into complicated projects like paving or water features quite yet. Even simple little changes or additions can make a dramatic difference for your house and yard.

Like icing on a cake, smooth flowing lines in a yard are pleasing to the eye. If you have any empty spaces such as old flower beds or side yards, consider lining them with sand or pea gravel. It is virtually maintenance-free and you will not have to deal with unsightly weeds. Also, take up any rotted landscaping timber and replace it with new treated timber or attractive stone pavers. These are not very expensive and can be purchased at most nurseries or home improvement stores.

While figuring a simple design for your yard, stand back and decide what will be the focal point. It can be anything from a large tree, a group of small shrubs, or a landscaping fixture. When you figure out where you want people to focus, then the rest of your design will stem from there. You may be lucky and will already have a beautiful tree or an arch. If not, you can plant one or put a fixture in the place that will naturally draw attention.

Perhaps nothing enhances the look of a home’s landscaping than artfully-placed flower beds and containers. It might be tempting to go overboard on a huge garden; however, you do not have to have the Garden of Eden to enjoy some pretty blooms. Using your focal point, decide on some conspicuous spots in the yard that could use a splash of color. Some people choose to make flowerbeds around their side walk, in front of the porch, or on the strip of grass next to the street curb.

After you have decided where to put your flower beds, you can dig up the ground and amend it with fresh compost. If you want inspiration and direction for your garden, the Internet and your local library is overflowing with information from the simplest to the complex plans. You will want some well-place perennials that will return every years and some annuals for exciting color variations. You also need to know what plants to grow in sunny areas and which ones thrive in shade. You can get a lot of help from the knowledgeable staff where you are buying your seeds or plants.

Most plants and trees fair better with a fresh layer of mulch. There are many mulch products on the markets made of different materials. It is up to your tastes and budget as to what kind you will use. Mulch makes landscaping look clean and appealing. You may want to do a little research as to which type would be the most beneficial for your plants. When using free landscaping ideas, you can sit back and admire your own handiwork.
